{"id":685,"date":"2010-04-08T16:34:50","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T21:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/?p=685"},"modified":"2010-04-08T16:40:43","modified_gmt":"2010-04-08T21:40:43","slug":"apple-pulls-the-van-pelt-maneuver-on-developers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/2010\/04\/08\/apple-pulls-the-van-pelt-maneuver-on-developers\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple pulls the Van Pelt maneuver on developers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daring Fireball reports that Apple has <a href=\"http:\/\/daringfireball.net\/2010\/04\/iphone_agreement_bans_flash_compiler\">changed their iPhone Developer Agreement<\/a> to exclude applications that aren&#8217;t written with purely native C\/C++ or Objective-C code or HTML\/Javascript\/CSS and webkit.<\/p>\n<p>If it proves to be true, this move can only sound the death knell for a number of projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/labs.adobe.com\/technologies\/flashcs5\/appsfor_iphone\/\">Flash CS5<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/rhomobile.com\/\">Rhomobile<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/anscamobile.com\/corona\/\">Corona<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/monotouch.net\/\">MonoTouch<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and possibly<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/phonegap.com\/\">PhoneGap<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.appcelerator.com\/\">Titanium<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve personally put a few weeks of effort into a Rhomobile project that is now a big pile of wasted money unless Apple changes this requirement.<\/p>\n<p>I can only imagine how completely gobsmacked the developers and funders of these projects will be to know that Apple has decided to take away their football.  We&#8217;re talking literally millions of dollars of value suddenly disappearing on Apple&#8217;s whim.<\/p>\n<p>I will be watching this issue with interest.
