{"id":642,"date":"2007-08-02T13:05:37","date_gmt":"2007-08-02T18:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/?p=642"},"modified":"2007-08-02T13:11:28","modified_gmt":"2007-08-02T18:11:28","slug":"ajax-evolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/2007\/08\/02\/ajax-evolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Ajax Evolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not only are the tools and techniques surrounding Ajax development maturing, the very scope of the Ajax meme continues to expand even now, two years since Jesse spake those <a href=\"http:\/\/adaptivepath.com\/publications\/essays\/archives\/000385.php\">immortal words<\/a> back in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The latest class of techniques to come under the umbrella of Ajax is offline browser applications.  At the <a href=\"http:\/\/ajaxexperience.com\">Ajax Experience<\/a> conference in SFO last week, there were a few presentations about the <a href=\"http:\/\/dojotoolkit.org\/offline\">Dojo Offline Toolkit<\/a>, which provides offline application and synchronization abstractions on top of the <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/apis\/gears\">Google Gears<\/a> local storage engine.   I spent quite a bit of time with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.codinginparadise.org\">Brad Neuberg <\/a>and his work on DOT is impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Another topic that got much more coverage this time around was <a href=\"http:\/\/ajaxexperience.techtarget.com\/west\/html\/performance.html\">Performance Analysis<\/a> and the tools you can use.  <a href=\"http:\/\/ajaxperformance.com\/\">Ryan Breen<\/a> had a great talk that described some very useful tools and Steve Souders presented his new tool <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.yahoo.com\/yslow\/\">YSlow<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I had a chance to hang around with lots of other great folk while I was there &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/crockford.com\">Douglas<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.mozillazine.org\/roadmap\/archives\/2007\/07\/new_projects.html\">Brendan<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/seankane.wordpress.com\/2007\/07\/\">Sean<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dylanschiemann.com\/\">Dylan<\/a>, the charming but unlinkable Stephanie Trimble, <a href=\"http:\/\/ejohn.org\/\">John<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/unspace.ca\/discover\/opensaysme\">Pete <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dori.com\">Dori<\/a> to name a few.
