{"id":583,"date":"2006-02-17T11:58:29","date_gmt":"2006-02-17T16:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/?p=583"},"modified":"2006-02-18T10:20:22","modified_gmt":"2006-02-18T15:20:22","slug":"will-chats-on-blogs-ever-reach-critical-mass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/2006\/02\/17\/will-chats-on-blogs-ever-reach-critical-mass\/","title":{"rendered":"Will chats on blogs ever reach critical mass?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m going to go to <a href=\"http:\/\/barcamp.org\/TorCampDemoCamp3\">DemoCamp<\/a> on Monday to demo<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogchat.com\"> BlogChat<\/a> and get a feel from the dev community whether there is any traction in &#8220;chat meets blogs&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>Tim and I have been running BlogChat as a free service for four years now and while it&#8217;s not everyone&#8217;s cup of tea, it has had some consistent followers and users even though it hasn&#8217;t been promoted or marketed to any extent. <\/p>\n<p>With some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2006\/02\/13\/3bubbles-is-live\/\">recent<\/a>  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stoweboyd.com\/message\/\">buzz<\/a> about chats and blogs caused by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.3bubbles.com\">3Bubbles<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campfirenow.com\/\">Campfire<\/a>, the tipping point may be on the horizon whereby enough people get to know about it that the minority of people who care to use it beyond the first day becomes a large enough pool to sustain a business model.  It certainly hasn&#8217;t been that way so far.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?  Will blog-based chat become de rigeur or will it forever remain a niche service?
