{"id":554,"date":"2005-05-12T16:28:06","date_gmt":"2005-05-12T21:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/?p=554"},"modified":"2005-05-12T16:28:06","modified_gmt":"2005-05-12T21:28:06","slug":"the-domino-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/2005\/05\/12\/the-domino-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"The domino effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seth Dillingham <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truerwords.net\/4784\">wonders what&#8217;s up<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weblogs.com\/\">weblogs.com<\/a>, which seems to be ignoring pings from at least a number of blogs hosted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.free-conversant.com\/\">Conversant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My friend Terry Frazier, very much alive, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terryfrazier.com\/fullthread$1690\">laments <\/a>the implications of the ignored pings.<\/p>\n<p>I was talking to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\">Technorati<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powazek.com\/justathought\/\">Derek Powazek <\/a> this week at the <a href=\"http:\/\/radar.oreilly.com\/archives\/2005\/05\/ajax_summit.html\">Ajax Summit <\/a>and he was telling us how their service uses these pings (and other external services from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.furl.net\">furl <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\">del.icio.us<\/a>) to do their magic.  <\/p>\n<p>If we can&#8217;t be reasonably confident of service levels from these resources, how can we be confident in the other services upon which they rely?
