{"id":175,"date":"2001-04-10T06:18:37","date_gmt":"2001-04-10T11:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/?p=175"},"modified":"2001-04-10T06:18:37","modified_gmt":"2001-04-10T11:18:37","slug":"in-the-valley-of-the-jolly-ho-ho-ho","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleyit.com\/blogs\/brentashley\/2001\/04\/10\/in-the-valley-of-the-jolly-ho-ho-ho\/","title":{"rendered":"in the valley of the jolly&#8230; ho ho ho&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>i used an interesting word the other week &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/cgi-bin\/dict.pl?term=inveigle\"><b>inveigle<\/b><\/a>.  i like it when one well-chosen word manages to bring together a complete symphony of concepts and context to express a single idea.  somehow, in the catacombs of my mind, my synapses have carefully cross-indexed a whole slew of such words, each to be presented at the tip of my tongue just at the moment when their particular ideal conversational and syntactic conditions come together.<\/p>\n<p>funny, then, that such an obscure word should inveigle itself into conversation again today on an entirely different topic.<\/p>\n<p>there has been a remarkable wave of openness and warmth over the last few months emanating from <a href=\"http:\/\/www-106.ibm.com\/developerworks\/linux\/\">IBM<\/a> towards the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turbolinux.com\/news\/pr\/010110.html\">Linux<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www-106.ibm.com\/developerworks\/opensource\/\">open-source <\/a>communities.  the big blue behemoth has become the veritable Jolly Blue Giant of the open-source valley, bringing forth a cornucopia of products and services, embracing openness, standards, hand picked enterprise javabeans and individually quick-frozen servlets for all.
